DOORMAT

When designing the doormat I was faced with many functional challenges due to the high level of wear and tear that a doormat is subjected to. All of the components of the doormat required extensive robust testing to ensure that it could withstand heat, rain, snow and heavy abrasion.

The mat required designing and engineering a high tolerance, custom molded plastic part that snaps into the rubber base to create a hook and loop attachment to the fabric top mat.

The doormat is a Ruggable best seller, driving net new revenue growth and has been featured on The Spruce as one of the best doormats of 2023.

ROBUST TESTING

I tested various types of synthetic and natural rubbers for durability in snow, sun, and rain. For the clip attachments, I also tested many types of adhesives, hook & loops, and types of plastics.

COMPONENT DESIGN & ENGINEERING

The clip attachment was a custom injection molded part that was fined tune so that the clip strength was strong, but also able to be removed and replaced in the rubber mat base if necessary.
